Designer
The Role:
This is not a traditional project architect or project lead role.
This is: Technical Designer + Quality Control Specialist
What we are looking for:
Reviewing and quality-controlling construction document sets
Redlining drawings and coordinating corrections with project teams
Assisting with technical detailing and drawing production
Supporting permit submissions and responding to city comments
Coordinating with consultants to ensure complete and accurate documentation
Catching inconsistencies, code issues, and coordination conflicts before issuance
Supporting designers and project managers with the technical side of project delivery
This person will occasionally assist in producing construction documents and may have opportunities to lead smaller or highly technical projects when appropriate, but the primary focus of the role is technical support, coordination, and quality control.
Responsibilities:
Technical Documentation & Production
Assist with production and coordination of construction document sets
Support project teams with technical detailing, code research, and drawing coordination
Develop details, finish plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, and millwork packages as needed
Ensure drawing consistency, accuracy, and coordination across all sheets
Maintain CAD/Revit standards and documentation organization
Assist with revisions and updates throughout project phases
Permitting & City Coordination
Submit drawing packages to cities and municipalities for permit review
Coordinate directly with plan reviewers, permitting departments, and expeditors
Track permit progress and respond to review comments in a timely manner
Revise drawing sets based on city comments and resubmit as required
Understand applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, and local jurisdiction standards
Quality Control & Redlining
Perform thorough QA/QC reviews on drawing sets before issuance
Redline and coordinate corrections with internal team members
Review consultant drawings for coordination conflicts and completeness
Ensure technical accuracy and constructability across project documentation
Catch inconsistencies, omissions, and coordination issues before submission
Project Coordination
Coordinate with MEP, structural, civil, and specialty consultants
Attend project coordination meetings as needed
Assist project managers and designers with technical project support
Assist with contractor RFIs, submittals, and construction administration tasks
Support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Serve as a technical resource for the internal team
Qualifications:
Degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or related field
7+ years of experience in commercial architecture or interior architecture
Strong technical construction documentation experience required
Proficiency in Revit required
Experience with permit submissions and city review processes
Strong understanding of building codes, ADA requirements, and commercial interiors
Ability to read, redline, and coordinate consultant drawings
Strong organization and time management skills
High attention to detail and commitment to quality control
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
